Dog Man creator Dav Pilkey, publisher Scholastic, and Little Free Libraries are launching "Power Up with Reading," a new initiative that will place Dog Man-themed Little Free Libraries in all 50 states, the group announced. Pilkey will donate 50,000 books to support Little Free Libraries in underserved communities.
The initiative will place Little Free Libraries with special Dog Man Power Up with Reading artwork in communities that are part of Little Free Library’s "Impact Library" program, which focuses on book exchanges in underserved communities. Each will include a copy of The Scarlet Shredder, the newest Dog Man volume (which coincidentally streets on March 19, the official kickoff of the program), and a wide assortment of kids titles from Scholastic’s "The Power of Story" collection, which highlights books featuring diverse characters and stories.
The first Power Up with Reading Little Free Library will appear at a school in Cleveland, Ohio, Pilkey’s birthplace. Other cities earmarked for the program include Washington, D.C., New York City, Atlanta, Baltimore, Detroit, Houston, New Orleans, Phoenix, Portland, Madison, and San Francisco, with more to be announced.
Little Free Libraries is responsible for over 180,000 Little Free Libraries worldwide, through which over 400 million books have been shared since 2009.
