As part of their ongoing quest to resurrect Standard play in FLGS (see "Standard Format"), Magic designers have decided to create a set of core cards that will stick around in the Standard format till at least 2029. The set will include some of the evergreen cards in the game, such as Llanowar Elves, Omniscience, and others, to give Standard players a foundation to build decks up. This set would be released with Play Booster and Collector Booster SKUs as well as The Beginner Box and Starter Kits.

Philosophically, this set gives Standard a core product that new players can glom onto to learn the game. The set not rotating out of the Standard format until 2029 and beyond adds some level of stability to the Standard format and allows players to make investments in building Standard decks without fear that the cards will rotate out of the format for a while.
