Shin'ichi Sakamoto's horror series #DRCL Midnight Children was named the Best New Manga at the American Manga Awards ceremony on August 22, the eve of AnimeNYC. Ryoko Kui's Delicious in Dungeon got the nod for Best Continuing Series, and VIZ Media's new edition of Ai Yazawa's Neighborhood Story won the award for Best New Edition of Classic Manga.

As previously announced (see "AnimeNYC, Japan Society to Launch American Manga Awards"), Frederick L. Schodt was inducted as the first member of the Manga Publishing Hall of Fame.

In addition to the series of the year, the awards included three localization categories. The Best Translation Award went to Stephen Kohler and the Best Lettering Award to Lys Blakeslee, both for their work on Kamome Shirahama's Witch Hat Atelier, and Adam Grano won the Best Publication Design Award for My Name is Shingo, by Kazuo Umezz.

The American Manga Awards are co-organized by LeftField Media and the nonprofit Japan Society.
