VIZ Media’s Summer 2025 manga announcements included a Spider-Man manga aimed at young readers, as well as a new series by Tokyo Revengers creator Ken Wakui and a new Hayao Miyazaki art book.
At a time when readers, parents, and librarians are clamoring for more manga for pre-teens, VIZ Media is delivering the goods with Spider-Man: Kizuna, the story of a nerdy boy, Yu, who is rescued by Spider-Man and then somehow bonded to him. The series runs in the Japanese magazine Saikyu Jump, which has a largely elementary-school readership. The first volume is slated for July 8, 2025, with an MSRP of $11.99.
In the series of announcements on Twitter, VIZ also mentioned Ultraman: Along Came a Spider-Man, the superhero crossover that was first revealed at SDCC (see “VIZ, Marvel Announce New Ultraman/Spider-Man Manga”).
Other announcements included sequels, spinoffs, and new titles by popular creators.
Astro Royale, by Ken Wakui, creator of the best-selling Tokyo Revengers (see “‘Tokyo Revengers’ Coming to Print”) has already been running digitally on VIZ’s Shonen Jump service and Shueisha’s Manga Plus platform. The story mixes sci-fi and gangster action as the battle for succession to the head of a yakuza family is interrupted by a meteor shower that awakens a mysterious superpower in many people, including the lead character.
Disney Twisted-Wonderland: The Manga – Book of Octavinelle is the latest series based on the video game; VIZ has already published an earlier series by Yana Toboso, who is the storyboard artist on this one. Release date is July 8, 2025, MSRP is $14.99.
Readers can explore the world of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure with the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Globetrotter Guidebook, slated for release on June 24, 2025, with an MSRP of $24.99. VIZ also announced it will publish the seventh arc of the long-running JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Steel Ball Run. The first volume is set for release on May 27, 2025 as a 394-page hardcover with an MSRP of $25.00.
The Art of The Boy and the Heron includes storyboards, concept art, and commentary on the award-winning film by Hayao Miyazaki. The 328-page hardcover will be released on May 27, 2025, with an MSRP of $40.00. VIZ also will re-release the film comic of Miyazaki’s Ponyo in a single volume; it was previously published as four paperback volumes. Release date is June 24, 2025, with an MSRP of $30.00.
