Marvel Comics has announced reprints of "must-read" stories in the popular 6" x 9" format under the title "The Marvel Premier Collection." The collections will be coming next year, starting in February. The goal is to provide entry points into the Marvel universe by showcasing the company's "most celebrated and prestigious storylines and creators." The first four books are:
Daredevil: Born Again, written by Frank Miller (with Dennis O'Neil) and drawn by David Mazzucchelli, is termed "the definitive Daredevil run" and "the perfect companion" to the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again TV show. The collection will include an exclusive new foreword by Frank Miller and afterword by actor Charlie Cox
The book reprints Daredevil (1964) #226-233, in which Daredevil's secret identity of attorney Matt Murdock is exposed by his former girlfriend Karen Page, leading Kingpin Wilson Fisk to destroy him.
Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet, written by Ta-Nehisi Coates and drawn by Brian Stelfreeze and Chris Sprouse, collects Black Panther (2016) #1-12. Dissidents are pushing for change in Wakanda, and the king seeks a new way to lead in this tale of Afrofuturism.
Captain America: Winter Soldier, written by Ed Brubaker and drawn by Steve Epting, with art by Michael Lark and John Paul Leon, collects Captain America (2004) #1-9 and 11-14. Captain America's pal Bucky Barnes returns as the resurrected undercover agent known as the Winter Soldier, and Cap is forced to face him in a battle over the Cosmic Cube.
Fantastic Four: Solve Everything, written by Jonathan Hickman and drawn by Dale Eaglesham, Neil Edwards, and Steve Epting, collects material from Fantastic Four (1998) #570-588 under cover art by Joe Quesada. Marvel's First Family is redefined in a saga that incorporates Atlantis, the Inhumans, a religious cult, and an interdimensional invasion.
All four books will have a smaller trim size of 6" x 9" and be cover-priced at $14.99. Daredevil: Born Again and Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet launch simultaneously on February 4, 2025, with Captain America: Winter Soldier due April 1, 2025, and Fantastic Four: Solve Everything coming out June 17, 2025.
This smaller size follows in the footsteps of DC Comics' successful Compact Comics line (see "More 'Compact Comics' Coming"), which has done very well on the sales charts (see "September 2024 Top 20 Superhero Graphic Novels").
Said Dan Buckley, President of Marvel Comics and Franchise, “We’ve all heard the age-old questions: ‘Where do I start? What is that one run you just cannot miss? What should I read before or after the next big movie or television show to have the best experience?’ The Marvel Premier Collection program is our answer to each of those questions.”
