ICv2 is adding Threads to its social media roster, which includes Bluesky and the legacy platforms, as the landscape for social media continues to transform. "Based on the movement in our social media follower counts, the microblogging audience is spreading out, with some users leaving X to move to Bluesky or other platforms," ICv2 CEO Milton Griepp said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "We’re adding Threads as another alternative, and will continue to make our news feeds available wherever our readers want to find them."
Thread s is a new platform launched in 2023 by Facebook and Instagram parent Meta. It has grown quickly, with over 200 million monthly users by August of this year. ICv2 launched its Threads feed yesterday.
ICv2 added Bluesky, developed by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey (who has since left the board), late last year, but it now appears to be gaining traction more quickly. Bluesky is much more in start-up mode, with around 13 million users, according to a recent post on their blog, and no revenues.
But that's about to change. Bluesky recently announced that it has raised $15 million in Series A financing led by Blockchain Capital (following an $8 million seed round last year), and is now about to begin monetization efforts. Those will include a subscription offering for features including higher quality video uploads or profile customizations. Bluesky also plans to create payment services for peoples to support their favorite creators and projects.
