Prerelease Pack
Wizards of the Coast has revealed product details and dates for its Magic: The Gathering: Aetherdrift set, originally announced back in October (see “’Magic: The Gathering’ in 2025”), including a change to how stores order prerelease packs. Some cards from the set have been revealed (see "'Aetherdrift' Card Reveals").

Six products will be offered, at MSRPs that have previously been revealed (see “WotC Returns to MSRPs”), with some changes to product configuration.

Play Booster boxes will now include 30 Play Boosters instead of 36, and will include a Box Topper pack with 1 of 10 first-place foil full-art basic lands and 1 of 127 first-place foil cards.

Collector Booster boxes will include a first-place foil Box Topper.  A headliner card will be included in less than 1% of boosters.

The 100-card Commander Decks will include 1 Traditional foil face commander and 1 Traditional foil featured commander, both with borderless art.

Bundles will include 9 Play Boosters, a Traditional foil alternate-art card, 40 Basic lands, 2 Reference cards, a Spindown die, and a card storage box.

Finish Line Bundles will include 6 Play Boosters, 2 Collector Boosters, 20 Basic lands (including 5 first-place foil basic lands), 3 Finish Line Bundle promo cards, each a traditional foil extended-art card with new artwork, 1 First-place foil Box Topper, Oversized spindown die, stickers, and a card storage box.

Prerelease Packs will include 6 Play Boosters, 1 Traditional foil year-stamped rare or mythic rare card, 1 Helper card, Deck box, and Spindown die (from among five total color versions).

As a test, WotC is changing how retailers order Prerelease Packs, eliminating allocations.  Instead, retailers will be able to order as many Prerelease Packs as needed from any authorized distributor.  Free Prerelease prizing boosters will continue to be allocated from your preferred distributor based on past reported Prerelease attendance.

Retailers will be able to reward players who participate in two or more Prerelease events at their store with augmented reality repeat play pins designed by Pinfinity AR.

Magic Academy events, introduced with the Foundations set (see “WotC Updates Retailer Info”), are being added to the evergreen event lineup. The Darksteel Colossus promo will continue to be offered as a gift-with-purchase for any Starter product or 6 play Boosters across either event, with additional Welcome Decks being sent to stores to support their events.
