Pantheon has announced it will publish the graphic novel Ginseng Roots, by Craig Thompson, creator of the award-winning graphic memoir Blankets. The story returns to Thompson’s childhood in rural Wisconsin, where he and his siblings spent summers weeding and picking ginseng, and also takes a broader look at the history of the global ginseng trade and the many lives it draws together. Ginseng Roots was initially published as a six-comic limited series by Uncivilized (see “Craig Thompson Does a Periodical Comic for the First Time”), and garnered two Eisner nominations in 2021. The Pantheon edition will be a 448-page hardcover graphic novel, slated for release on April 29, 2025, with an MSRP of $35.00.
