The Spawn universe continues to expand with the announcement of two new titles from Todd McFarlane Productions, Black Ritual: The Book of NYX and Medieval Spawn.
Black Ritual: The Book of NYX, by Spawn EiC Thomas Healy and artist Nat Jones, is a seven-part limited series delving into the backstory of the first female Spawn as well as the implications of her actions and her quest for redemption. The first issue will be released on April 2, 2025, with a main cover by Jones and a variant by Jonathan Glapion.
"Nyx, to me, has always been a character with more story to tell. She has mostly been a side character, even now, reigning as the Queen of Hell, Healy said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "So, when Nat approached us about doing a new book focused on her, I knew I wanted to be involved. The reader will see how her story continued after Spawn #184. Where she went, what she did, and how those ‘lost years’ have helped shape the current Spawn Universe."
Medieval Spawn, by writer Rory McConville and artist Marco Itri, is a four-issue miniseries depicting the origins and early life of Sir Jon of York, a brutal warrior who fought dragons, wizards, and monsters before he was resurrected in modern times. The first issue will go on sale on April 23, 2025, with a main cover by Francesco Mattina and a black and white variant by McFarlane and Mattina.
Medieval Spawn was originally announced in 2024 as part of a whole suite of new Spawn titles (see "McFarlane to Expand Spawn Universe").
