Riad Sattouf’s graphic novel series Arab of the Future was the subject of a front-page article in the New York Times on Sunday, which revealed that Fantagraphics Books will publish the final two volumes in the series as well as Sattouf’s next series, I, Fadi, the Stolen Brother.

Sattouf’s graphic memoir of his childhood in France and the Middle East has drawn new attention for the depiction of his life in Syria.  The series is published in France, and the first four volumes were published in the U.S. by the Macmillan imprint Metropolitan Books. I, Fadi, the Stolen Brother is the story of Sattouf’s younger brother, who, Sattouf says, was kidnapped from France and brought to Syria by his father.  The first volume has been published in France.  Pantheon has also published an American collection of Sattouf’s comic strip Esther’s Notebooks.

The first volume of Arab of the Future was nominated for a 2016 Eisner Award, made numerous best-of-the-year lists (see “ICv2’s Meta ‘Best Graphic Novels of 2015’ List”), and won the award for best graphic novel at the Angoulême International Comics Festival. Sattouf was also awarded the Grand Prix d’Angouleme in 2023.
