The comics publisher DSTLRY is launching a new retailer platform, Tasting Room, at the annual ComicsPRO meeting. The app is designed as a central hub for retailers, with early access to information about upcoming titles, previews of covers and interior artwork, and commentary from creators, as well as short modules designed to help staff hand-sell the comics. It also incorporates incentives for "tasting" DSTLRY titles, with leaderboards and challenges to foster competition, limited-edition DSTLRY merchandise for top performers, and recognition of staffers who increase engagement as "aste makers." Tasting Room is currently in beta and will launch industry-wide in 30 days.
"The Tasting Room is all about giving store staff a first sip of the incredible stories we’re fermenting," said DSTLRY Co-Founder and CCO Chip Mosher in a statement accompanying the announcement.
"By providing an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at upcoming books, rewards, and engagement tools, we’re able to align and empower comic shop staff to celebrate the next phase of creator-owned comics," added DSTLRY CEO and Co-Founder David Steinberger.
"We love the Tasting Room concept!" said Steve Anderson, Founder and CEO of Third Eye Comics. "DSTLRY has been killer in being proactive with giving retailers the tools to grow sales on DSTLRY titles, and this concept is an incredible and innovative way to continue growing both their readership, and their relationship with retailers!"
DSTLRY announced a new sales and retailer relations lead in December (see "DSTLRY Hires André D. Anderson as Head of Sales and Retailer Relations").
