AWA is launching the Ultimate Oz Universe, which will go beyond L. Frank Baum’s most famous works to explore lesser-known characters and settings. The graphic novels in the series will have QR codes that will link to video footnotes and commentary, original music, maps, and other bonus features and are created in collaboration with Baum scholars. The first volume will be The Lost Lands, co-written by Cullen Bunn and songwriter and Oz fan Larry King, with artwork by Mike Deodato, Jr., which will be released in hardcover and paperback editions on November 12, 2025.
"This is not fan fiction," said AWA Chief Creative Officer Axel Alonso in a statement accompanying the announcement, "this is the first of many meticulously researched and canon-faithful stories that show you Oz like you've never seen before. Beginning with The Lost Lands, we’re transporting readers back to the Emerald City and then way beyond for an adventure that reunites fan-favorite characters and introduces a variety of new faces that fans might not know. Expect heroes, villains, powerful artifacts, exotic locations, and mind-blowing transformations."
