DC Comics and Bad Idea have announced mid-six figure print runs for comics releasing this Spring, further signs of a bullish market for comics in 2025.
Bad Idea will ship at least 655,000 copies of Planet Death #0, its first comic to be sold through distribution to comic stores, the company announced. Promotionally priced at $1.99 MSRP, the comic will be released April 30 through Lunar Distribution. Bad Idea has previously eschewed variants; this issue has a Joe Quesada Gatefold Wraparound Triptych Variant.
Expanding distribution and doing variants represent part of a major re-positioning for Bad Idea, which is angling toward a bigger comic store presence in 2025 (see "ICv2 Interview: Bad Idea VP Sales and Marketing Siena Fallon"). Planet Death #0, written by creator and writer of the John Wick franchise Derek Kolstad with Robert Venditti, with art by Tomas Giorello and colors by Dave Stewart, leads into the first 40-page prestige format issue of the series, launching in July.
Last year had its share of six-figure sellers, including Ultimate Spider-Man #1, Absolute Batman #1, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1, which sold over 300,000 copies (see "’TMNT’ #1 Orders Pass 300,000"), and 2025 is kicking off at least as strong.
