Marvel Comics will launch X-Men of Apocalypse, a new comic event written by Jeph Loeb with art by Simone Di Meo, in September. The event will kick off with X-Men of Apocalypse #1, a one-shot, on September 3, and the first issue of a four-issue X-Men of Apocalypse mini-series in November. The event will conclude with X-Men of Apocalypse Omega #1.
A prelude to the event will be featured in the Revelations back-up story in Giant Size Age of Apocalypse #1, part of Marvel's Giant-Size X-Men event (see "Marvel to Rewrite History").
The new story takes place immediately after the finale of the original event 30 years ago, and brings the war-torn group led by Magneto into the main Marvel universe, where the come into conflict with their classic counterparts.
"Thirty years ago, The X-Men of Apocalypse took the comics world by storm and I was lucky enough to be part of it," Loeb said in a statement accompanying the announcement. "Now, for the 30th anniversary, an all-new, all-different story with spectacular art by Simone Di Meo brings us to this uncanny team that shouldn't even exist – and they are coming here! Join Gambit, Sabretooth & Wild Child, Blink, Forge and Morph and more as they try to save one universe without dooming another!"
Loeb and artist Jim Lee recently produced a top-selling run of Batman with their H2SH storyline (see "Six-Figure Print Runs").
