Mechanical Cake, the studio that is partnering with filmmaker Ridley Scott to produce graphic novels and other properties (see “Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Teams Up with Mechanical Cake”) has announced that Johnny Depp is joining their upcoming project, Hyde. The two-volume graphic novel will be written by Mechanical Cake CEO Jesse Negron and Joe Matsumoto, with art by Gary Erskine and Chris Weston. Dave Elliott will be the editor, and Depp will be involved in all aspects of the property, including creating the character on the screen. Depp, Scott, and Mechanical Cake will be the co-owners of the property.

The concept of Hyde is based on Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde but envisions that the evil Hyde has conquered his alter ego and taken up residence in the sewers of London, where he runs diabolical experiments on other humans. Each of the two volumes of Hyde has two chapters with over 200 pages, and the first will be released in October 2025. Mechanical Cake will have an ashcan at Comic-Con International in San Diego.
