A Paid Advertisement.  New York, NY (June 9, 2005) -- The Topps Company has been awarded the license to publish official KING KONG trading cards based on the upcoming movie from Universal Pictures and Academy Award-winning director Peter Jackson.

While most often associated with the Lord of the Rings films, Peter Jackson has frequently said that seeing the original KING KONG movie as a youngster inspired him to pursue a film career.  For his adaptation of KING KONG, Jackson deploys the latest in motion- picture technology to bring this classic tale to the screen.  The Kong beast, along with herds of dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures discovered on Skull Island, is digitally rendered with breathtaking realism.  Working hand in hand with the cutting-edge visual- effects creators is an ensemble team of some of Hollywood's brightest stars, including Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts (21 Grams), Jack Black (School of Rock) and Academy Award winner Adrien Brody (The Pianist).  The film's combination of Jackson's poignant storytelling, riveting on-screen performances and spectacular technology promise a truly extraordinary entertainment experience.

 

Universal Studios is dedicating unprecedented marketing, licensing and promotional support to KING KONG, which opens in theaters on December 14. The first trailer was seen at the end of June, in conjunction with the release of War of the Worlds. 

 

Topps plans an ambitious card program for KING KONG, worthy of the grand scale of the movie.  'The chance to be a part of a milestone cultural event this big rarely comes around,' says Topps' Friedman. 'We're creating fun, collectible cards to appeal to KONG fans and collectors of every age.' The Topps movie tie-in cards will appear on retail counters in advance of KING KONG's theatrical debut.
