Geneon Entertainment is offering consumers a $10 rebate if they purchase two anime DVDs from a list of approved titles between September 13th and October 31st, fill out a form (including proof of purchase) and mail it to Geneon before November 30th.
The DVDs in the Halloween-themed promotion include the 'Gothic Lolita' classic, Le Portrait de Petite Cossette, The Locker, Ghost Talker's Daydream, the first two volumes of Mermaid Forest, all three volumes of Lunar Legend Tsukihime and all seven volumes of Gungrave.
Geneon's promotion is just the latest effort on the part of American anime companies to jumpstart a stagnant market. Until recently the anime segment of the DVD market has been quite resistant to the pressure for lower prices that has affected so many other segments of the home video business. The price of TV shows on DVD has dropped considerably over the past few years as the number of releases has increased, and in 2005 the anime market has begun to respond to those same pressure. ADV, Bandai, CPM and others have announced price reductions on repackaged backlist titles, a trend that is likely to continue and intensify.
