Sponsored. Plug into the highly anticipated cooperative deck-building game based on The Matrix trilogy. This game reimagines iconic moments, features original art, and introduces new mechanics. Learn the truth and save humanity!
By day, Thomas Anderson works for a software company. By night, he is the hacker known as Neo. One of these lives has a future, and the other does not. Legendary® Encounters: The Matrix™ puts you right in the action of The Matrix trilogy as you choose a hero, free your mind from The Matrix, encounter deadly Sentinels in the subterranean depths of the real world, and defend the underground city of Zion from the relentless machines! This highly anticipated cooperative deck building game immerses 1 to 5 players into the films of The Matrix trilogy.
Demos of Legendary® Encounters: The Matrix™ at Upper Deck’s booth at Gen Con 2022 gave attendees a special preview of the game, sparking great interest for its release. The lucky players who participated experienced never-before-seen gameplay from the first Matrix movie in a 4-player set-up. They also got a sneak peek of some of the all-original art inspired by the trilogy’s hallmark cinematic style and iconic moments. Later this summer, players will get to enjoy the impressive cooperative gameplay and striking visuals that helped make the demo so popular on the show floor.
The Legendary® Encounters deck-building games have seen great success with other blockbuster sci-fi properties thanks to the system’s dedication to following the plot of the movie while replicating that nail-biting suspense. Legendary® Encounters: The Matrix™ immerses the players through sequential Acts and Objectives. This structure guides the players through the main beats of each movie, such as completing training with Morpheus before being able to speak to the Oracle.
Fans of the Legendary® Deck Building Game – and even more so fans of the Legendary® Encounters system spun off from it – have game mechanics both familiar and new to look forward too. For those unacquainted with either, players use Recruit to add better cards to their deck and Attack to defeat enemies on the board, working together to win. One returning aspect of the Legendary® Encounters system is Hidden Enemies. When cards are drawn from the Matrix Deck, they start off face down and must be "scanned" by players who have enough Attack in order to turn them face up. This adds to the suspense of enemies might be lurking in the Matrix, undiscernible from the necessary Objective cards until scanned.
A new and important mechanic introduced in Legendary® Encounters: The Matrix™ is moving between the Real World and the Matrix. This greatly determines what players can do: you can only Recruit Heroes while you’re in the Real World, and you can Attack to scan spaces and fight Enemies while you’re in the Matrix. Thoroughly consider what you need to do in both the Real World and the Matrix depending on whether you need to Recruit, Attack, or complete Challenges – and be careful not get trapped inside with no Telephones open!
Are you ready to go down the rabbit hole and Become The One? Choose to plug in as Neo and other iconic heroes from The Matrix. Save Zion and all of humanity in Legendary® Encounters: The Matrix™! Find this release at Gen Con 2023 at the Upper Deck booth, #1205, and on store shelves later this year.
