We round up the latest news for Captain Marvel, Venom, and more.
As Marvel begins work on the final films in Phase Three -- including Captain Marvel and the as-yet-unnamed fourth and final Avengers feature film -- Marvel president Kevin Feige spoke with IndieWire about the role women will play in future films. Currently, Captain Marvel is the only film centered on a female lead in the MCU, and Feige revealed that the character will appear in Avengers 4 and that the events of both films are tied together. Captain Marvel, which stars Brie Larson, is set to begin shooting in March and is due in theaters on March 8, 2019 (see “'X-Force,' 'Thor: Ragnarok,' 'Ant-Man and the Wasp,' More”). Avengers 4 has a release date of May 3, 2019 (see “Feige Explains How 22-Movie Marvel Arc Ends”). In another IndieWire feature, Feige addressed the idea of a solo Hulk movie. Mark Ruffalo’s take on the Green Goliath and the “Planet Hulk” storyline in Thor: Ragnarok have many fans demanding a standalone feature. An MCU film is problematic because Universal has the rights to Hulk’s solo outings -- Universal, not Marvel, released Louis Leterrier’s The Incredible Hulk, which is regardless considered part of the MCU. “I think that back and forth continues, and I don’t know if it will ever happen,” Feige told IndieWire, before adding that he’s pleased with the popularity of the MCU incarnation of the character and the demand for a film. For now, we’ll have to be satisfied with a costarring role for the Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, which opens on November 3 (see “More Hela in Latest 'Thor: Ragnarok' Trailer”). Scott Haze (Thank you for Your Service, Midnight Special) is in talks for Venom according to The Hollywood Reporter. No specific details on the role were revealed. Carnage is the major villain in the film, but some unconfirmed rumors have Riz Ahmed (Star Wars: Rogue One) attached to the role. If cast, Haze will join star Tom Hardy (Dark Knight Rises, Mad Max: Fury Road), Michelle Williams (Shutter Island, Manchester by the Sea), and Ahmed on the film, which opens October 5, 2018 (see “'Gambit,' 'Bob's Burgers,' 'Avatar 2,' 'Venom,' 'Sonic the Hedgehog'”).Latest Marvel Movie News
