There were several developments in geek movie news in recent days, and it's time for a round-up!
Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians) has been in talks with Paramount, Skydance, and AllSpark to star in the Snake Eyes movie according to Variety. The Snake Eyes movie is currently in preproduction with an October 16, 2020 scheduled release date (see "'Snake Eyes Spinoff"). IDW has the G.I. Joe comics. Also on the G.I. Joe movie front, Paramount and Hasbro are developing a second movie based on the property, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They've tapped Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemac, who wrote the most recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies, to write the script (see "'Turtles' Is the Latest Sequel to Disappoint"). G.I. Joe has been one of Hasbro's most successful brands adapted to the silver screen with two previous movies released into theaters.
Warner Bros. has delayed Denis Villeneuve's new Dune movie according to Deadline. The studio pushed the release date back from November 20, 2020 to December 18, 2020. Also, Dune will still have an Imax release, as previously reported (see "'Dune' Get Release Dates").
The status of the Doctor Doom movie by Noah Hawley, first revealed as in development in 2017 (see "SDCC Geek Movie News") is unclear since the Disney acquisition of Fox, according to a Deadline interview with Hawley, who just wrapped up Legion (see "' Winds Down 'Legion'"). However, Hawley did say of his script that "... it’s sort of on me right now to go push them, which I will do as soon as I come up for air."
The status of another comic-based film at Disney's Twentieth Century Fox is clearer; Fox has ended development of Lumberjanes as part of a general pruning of Fox's development slate after its recent bad quarter, according to Variety. At one point Lumberjanes had a director and was a priority for Fox (see "Emily Carmichael to Direct 'Lumberjanes'"). Warner Bros. and Dolby Laboratories will rerelease The Matrix nationwide in AMC theaters for a week late this month. Beginning August 30, The Matrix will celebrate its 20-year anniversary on the big screen at 135+ AMC locations in the United States. AMC recently announced a similar anniversary rerelease for The Dark Knight, which will be in theaters on August 24th (see " 'The Dark Knight's Rerelease").
