The young and talented indie director Emily Carmichael, who has helmed two award-winning short films, has been tapped to direct an adaptation of the hit graphic novel Lumberjanes, created by Noelle Stephenson, Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, and Brooke Allen and published by Boom! Studios.  Carmichael will be working with a first draft script by Will Widger (see “Lumberjanes Movie in the Works”).

The Wrap reports that Lumberjanes, which it described as “a female version of The Goonies, has already sold over 500,000 copies of the original graphic novel, and that the project is “a priority” at Fox.  Carmichael was considered by many in Hollywood as a front runner to helm Captain Marvel for Disney, something that is considerably less likely now that she is involved in the Lumberjanes project.
