DC has announced its Free Comic Book Day comics, including the first look at their Batman: Fear State event.

The other publishers announced their selections in March (see “FCBD 2021 Gold Sponsor Comics Announced” and “FCBD 2021 Silver Sponsor Titles”), and DC announced at that time that it would participate (see “DC’s In for Free Comic Book Day”).

Batman: FCBD Special Edition includes previews of two of the comics in the upcoming Fear State crossover event (see “‘Fear State’ Brings a New Horror Event to Gotham City”): Batman: Fear State, by writer James Tynion IV and artist Jorge Jimenez, and I Am Batman, by writer John Ridley and artist Travel Foreman.

Suicide Squad FCBD Special Edition also includes first looks at two upcoming storylines: Suicide Squad: King Shark, by writer Tim Seeley and artist Scott Kolins, and Suicide Squad: Get Joker! by writer Brian Azzarello and artist Alex Maleev (see “Brian Azzarello and Alex Maleev Team Up for ‘Suicide Squad: Get Joker!’” The Suicide Squad movie will be released in theaters and on HBO Max on August 6.

Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven Special Edition previews the upcoming graphic novel by writer Kami Garcia and artist Gabriel Picolo, the followup to the pair’s previous Raven and Beast Boy graphic novels. These are part of DC’s young adult graphic novel program (see “DC Schedules Three YA Titles for September”).

And finally, Batman and Robin and Howard/Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld Special Edition Flipbookoffers samples of two comics: Batman and Robin and Howard by Jeffrey Brown, creator of Star Wars: Jedi Academy; and Amethyst: Princess of Genworld by writers Shannon and Dean Hale and artist Asiah Fulmore (see “Top-Selling Creators on DC Middle-Grade Graphic Novels”).

Free Comic Book Day will take place on August 14, 2021.
