Hollywood news is rolling in, and we round it up here.
FX and Hulu have released the official trailer for Alien: Earth, the new Noah Hawley series premiering August 12 (see "’Alien: Earth’ Gets Date"). The new series, set in 2120 (the Corporate Era when Earth is ruled by five corporations), has humanoid robots with artificial intelligence encountering mysterious life forms after a corporate spaceship crashes on earth.
Prime Video has released a trailer for the second season of The Boys spinoff Gen V, which will premiere on Wednesday, September 17. After a three-episode drop on the premiere date, additional episodes will be released weekly until the final episode drops on October 22. School is back in session, and the new Dean is promising to make students even more powerful as war is brewing between Humans and Supes. The first season debuted two years ago, in 2023 (see "’Gen V’ Trailer").
Netflix has released the trailer for the Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein, which will be released direct-to-streaming in November. The feature stars Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, Mia Goth, Felix Kammerer, with Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz. This film has had an unusually long development history; our first reference to a Frankenstein feature directed by del Toro was in 2009 (see "’Frankenstein’ Based on Wrightson Image").
Titmouse is developing an animated series based on the webcomic (and collected print edition) Anime Club, by KC Green, the company announced. The webcomic tells the story of a school club of four kids notorious for not being well liked around the school. A print edition of the comics was released by Topatoco.
Mattel, Universal Pictures, and Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road have signed Gerard Johnston (M3GAN 2.0) to direct a Monster High live-action feature, the companies announced. Goldsman's most recent genre success was as showrunner of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Mattel has licensed comics and novels based on the property (see "Mattel Partners with Abrams, IDW").
