7-Eleven’s Domo-Nation promotion, which will last the entire month of October, includes an abbreviated version of Tokyopop’s Domo manga that will sell for $3.99, Domo Qee Action Figures ($9.99), Domo DVDs ($15.99), plush figures, caps and t-shirts, as well as the traditional 7-Eleven promotional staples like Slurpees, branded coffee cups, and specially packaged hot dogs. Created by Japanese illustrator Tsuneo Goda in 1998 as the mascot for the NHK TV network, Domo has become something of a pop culture phenomenon thanks to user-generated content and viral videos on YouTube, Facebook and Flickr.
As ICv2 reported back in May (see “Dark Horse, TPop Join Domo Promotion”) 7-Eleven and Domo license holder Big Tent Entertainment have created exclusive Web content to push the promotion. A new 3-part Webisode animated by dwarf inc., the Japanese animation company that originally created Domo, will flog the promotion online at slurpee.com and domonation.com.
Domo will be hard to miss at 7-Elevens, which will be festooned with banners and signage decorated with the NHK mascot’s likeness. A larger-than-life cardboard Domo candy display will feature Snickers and Reese’s candy bars in its mouth and includes shelves for other Domo items including a shortened version Tokyopop manga and the Dark Horse-supplied ultra cool Domo Qee Action Figures, which are created by the Hong Kong-based designer toy company Toy2R.
