Nimrod Antal, the director of Robert Rodriguez’s Predators, is giving lots of interviews these days in conjunction with the release of Armored, the armored car heist picture starring Laurence Fishburne, Matt Dillon and Jean Reno that Antal helmed, and which is due to be released on December 4th.  When asked about his current project, the fifth Predator film, Antal was adamant about trying to recapture the “practical” elements that made the original Predator film so effective. Genre film fans will be happy to know that like the 1997 Predator film, Antal's new movie will be rated "R."

Antal is currently in the midst of filming Robert Rodriguez’s Predators, which is slated to debut next July.  The Hungarian-born director told Coming Soon.net that despite producer Rodriguez’s penchant for computer-generated effects and green screen filming, he has been allowed to make Predators his way with a minimum of special effects: “I think we both recognize that the original film was as good as it was because of the practical, because it was a guy in a suit, because it was the jungle, so we stay true to that. We were in Hawaii for a month in the jungle, so there's going to be some pretty impressive locations.”

Antal also defended his choice of Adrian Brody (see “Adrian Brody Starring in Predators”) to carry the film: “Again, it was a challenge in finding a balance. I think when we cast Adrian, there were a lot of people going, 'What?' but at the same time, if we cast a Vin Diesel in that role or if we cast anyone who is Arnold-esque, we would have been attacked for doing that. So we decided early on to go in a very different direction as far as the casting process, but it turned out fantastic. He plays a mercenary in the film and if you look at the guys in Iraq and Afghanistan today, they're not 'yolked-out' Schwarzenegger-looking guys. They're all very wiry and thin guys, and I think it's going to play well.”
