Pedigree Comics has sold a CGC 9.2 copy of The Brave and the Bold #28, the first appearance of the Justice League of America, for $120,000, according to the Scoop.
It is one of the most popular and valuable early Silver Age key issues, currently ranked as #11 according to the latest Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide listing.
According to Pedigree CEO Doug Schmell, only two CGC 9.4’s and two 9.2’s have been certified, followed by only seven in 9.0 and four in 8.5 (this of more than 550 copies submitted to the CGC). The sale for $120,000 is a record price for any copy of Brave and the Bold #28, nearly doubling the only recorded 9.4 sale (in April 2004) of $60,375. The other 9.2 copy (with off-white pages) fetched $35,850 in May 2008. The book has been enjoying a rise in demand, popularity and value; as evidenced by the recent sales of two 8.5 examples this year (in September for $45,504 and for $40,500 in June).
It’s not quite the $175,000 brought in for the insulation copy of Action Comics #1 paid earlier this year, but it is a nice chunk of change (see "'Action Comics' #1 Brings $175,000").
