There has been a lot of movement on geek TV show productions in the last two weeks and we round that news up here.
Netflix has cast Game of Thrones actor Finn Jones as the lead in its next Marvel series Iron Fist, according to EW. The fourth Marvel series for Netflix will helmed by Scott Buck (Dexter) as showrunner. Netflix and Marvel will eventually unite all its heroes (Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist) in a series called The Defenders.
There have been several casting announcements for the upcoming CW series based on Archie comics (see “Archie-Based 'Riverdale' Live-Action Series Gets Pilot Order”). Today it was announced that Madelaine Petsch will play redhead Cheryl Blossom. She will join Archie who will be played by KJ Apa, Jughead played by Cole Sprouse, Betty Cooper played by Lili Reinhart, and Josie played by Ashleigh Murray. Luke Perry has been cast as Archie Andrews’s father Fred.
Vanessa Hudgens has been cast to star in NBC’s DC Comics comedy Powerless, The Wrap reported. The Warner Bros. Television-produced sitcom has also cast Danny Pudi, Alan Tudyk, and Christina Kirk in supporting roles, according to Variety. The single-camera show is set at one of the worst insurance companies in America, which deals with the massive damage claims filed in the wake of DC superheroes having a normal, everyday, action-filled adventure. The show will use “recognizable” superheroes, one network exec already assured viewers (see “Geek TV News Round-Up”).
