Lupita Nyong’o, who won Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years a Slave, is in talks to star with Chadwick Boseman in Marvel’s Black Panther feature, THR is reporting.
Nyong’o’s character identity has not been announced, though she will play T’Challa’s love interest in the film.
The character of the Black Panther/T’Challa was introduced in Captain America: Civil War (see “New Spider-Man, Black Panther Images”) which has already earned $700 million worldwide. The Black Panther solo film will release on Feb. 2, 2018, with production planned to start next year. The script was written by Ryan Coogler, who will also direct (see “Geek Movie News Round-Up”).
Marvel has been raising Black Panther’s profile this year, with a new solo comic series (see “'Black Panther' Preview in 'The Atlantic'“) as well as a massive merchandising push (see “Marvel Unveils 'Black Panther' Merchandising Program”).
