Here we round-up the news for four geek movies from the past few days.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase 2 Collection set (Amazon Exclusive For Marvel 'Phase Two' Box Set”) will include a featurette about what fans can expect to see from “Phase 3” films including Doctor Strange. In a clip from the featurette (which can be viewed at USAToday.com), director Scott Derrickson refers to the movie as “a mind-trip action film” and shared concept art that includes Benedict Cumberbatch donning the iconic red cape.
John Goodman has joined the cast for Luc Besson’s space opera Valerian, Variety is reporting. The actor will provide a voice for an alien character. Pop star Rihanna was recently cast in an undisclosed role for the film (see “Rihanna Cast in Intergalactic Space Opera”). The film is scheduled to open on November 3, 2017.
Thor: Ragnarok has a new screenwriter, according to THR. Stephaney Folsom is now working on a script which was previously penned by Christopher Yost and Craig Kyle (see “Marvel Starts on 'Thor 3'”). The film is due in theaters on July 28, 2017.
The Black Panther solo film may have found its director in Ryan Coogler. According to Variety, the Creed helmer is in talks to direct. Ava DuVernay and F. Gary Gray were also considered by Marvel, the article stated. The film will star Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa. The character will debut in Captain America: Civil War next year (see “The Black Panther Unleashed”).
