Netflix has given a 10-episode, straight-to-series order to Lost in Space, Deadline is reporting.
The show is a remake of the 1965 cult sci-fi classic. Development will begin in November, with plans for a 2018 premiere. The reboot was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold). The pair will executive produce with Zack Estrin (The River) who will also serve as showrunner. Also executive producing will be Kevin Burns and Jon Jashni of Synthesis Entertainment, and Neil Marshall and Marc Helwig of Legendary TV-based Applebox. Marshall will be producing director and direct several episodes.
Netflix won a bidding war for the series last November (see “'Lost in Space' TV Series”). The series has been in development as a new series several times, including at Fox in the early 00s (see “Lost in Space and Time Tunnel To Return to TV”).
There have been numerous home video releases of the series, most recently last year for the show’s 50th Anniversary (see “DVD Round-Up: 'Furious 7,' 'Big Bang,' 'Cinderella,' 'Lost in Space,' 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,' & 'Agent Carter'”).
American Gothic Press’s FM Comics began releasing the comic series in March (see “FM Comics to Publish 'Lost in Space: Season 4'”).
