Live entertainment merchandising firm Araca Group will set up more than 50 “pop-up” stores in theaters around the country this weekend in order to take advantage of the throngs of fans expected to attend the opening weekend of Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad, which some analysts say will bring in $140-150 million in its first three days.

The pop-up stores will offer exclusive “Join the Squad” tie-in merchandise from Warner Consumer Products and will be located in theaters in a number of states including California, New York, Florida, Texas, Georgia, Colorado, North Carolina, New Mexico, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington.  Folks who have purchased t-shirts at concerts for big name groups will know what to expect from the “pop-up” stores, which will be open for business starting on Thursday, August 4 for a limited run.

Putting “pop-up” stores in theaters for big “event” movies is not a new concept, the Araca Group did it for the Marvel/Disney Civil War (see “Pop-Up Stores Offer Marvel Merch in Theaters”), and evidently feels that Suicide Squad, in spite of horrific reviews (it is only 32% positive on Rotten Tomatoes), will present a similar opportunity.  Sensing a hit, Warner Consumer Products has formulated ambitious plans for branded Suicide Squad merchandise (see “Suicide Squad Merch”).
