Fanfare / Ponent Mon is releasing a pair of works from acclaimed manga-ka Jiro Taniguchi.

Inspired by Tadataka Ino, a Japanese cartographer famed for making the first accurate map of Japan in the 19th Century, Furari follows the unnamed main character as he traverses Japan during his years-long mapping survey. The 208-page black and white hardcover will be released on July 12. MSRP is $25.00.

Venice is Taniguchi’s travelogue and painterly love letter to the long history and serenity of the floating city of Italy. Originally commissioned by design house Louis Vuitton, the 128-page full-color book has an MSRP of $25.00. A release date has not been announced.

Taniguchi, a multiple Eisner nominee, passed away in February at the age of 69 (see “R.I.P. Jiro Taniguchi”). Summit of the Gods (with Yemmakura Baku; see “The 2014 Eisner Award Nominees”), A Distant Neighborhood (see “2010 Eisner Noms Released”), The Quest for the Missing Girl (see “Eisner Nominations Released”), and The Ice Wanderer and Other Stories (see “Eisner Awards Share the Wealth”) are among the titles that have Eisner nominations.

Taniguchi’s Guardians of Louvre is part of NBM’s Louvre Collection (see “NBM Publishing's 2016 Release Schedule”).
