Writer Mike Bullock saw Larry Schoenemen's comments about a lack of heroic ideals in superheroes (see 'Larry Schoeneman of Hero Headquarters on The State of Comics'), and finds those ideals in The Phantom:

I was delighted to read Larry's Talk Back regarding the lack of heroic ideals in most books these days.  This is exactly what has drawn me to writing The Phantom for Moonstone Books.  Not only is The Phantom arguably the first costumed hero, he remains a hero through and through to this very day.  This heroism, selflessness, desire to stand up for the downtrodden and need to defend the defenseless is exactly what appeals to me most about heroic fiction.

I count the days until the trend of gray shaded, grim and gritty anti-heroes are no longer the accepted standard.
