Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has hired the husband and wife writing team of Kieran and Michele Mulroney to write the screenplay for a Justice League of America movie.  The decision represents an about-face of sorts for Warners, which deep-sixed a Batman vs. Superman project (see 'Batman vs. Superman Set for 2004') in order to concentrate on reviving the separate Batman and Superman franchises.  A JLA movie would doubtless include both Superman, and Batman alone with other core JLA members such as Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and Martian Manhunter.

Casting such a film would provide Warners with some interesting problems including whether to use Christian Bale and Brandon Routh who are already established as the contemporary big screen Batman and Superman characters, to say nothing of balancing the screen time for a bevy of superhero characters and finding a story that will please 'civilians' as well as the hardcore fans, who have long salivated over the possibility of a JLA movie.  Certainly the JLA property is as popular now as it has ever been since the super group's first appearance in The Brave and The Bold in 1960, thanks to Brad Meltzer's new post Infinite Crisis JLA series.

The Mulroneys (Kieran is the brother of actor Dermot Mulroney) attracted attention in action movie circles in Hollywood thanks to their rewrite of the Mr. & Mrs. Smith script.
