Dennis Schamp, former manager of The Comic Gallery in San Diego, California saw columnist Steve Bennett's reactions (see 'Confessions of a Comic Book Guy--The End Of An Era') to handing off new comic Wednesdays to another employee, and shared his feelings about a similar experience.
Although not the owner of The Comic Gallery in
About four years ago, I decided to change professions and become a school teacher. That meant that I would have to give up that Wonderful Wednesday feeling for new experiences. And that someone else would be doing what I had perfected many years ago! I think that was the most difficult part of the change -- allowing someone else to handle 'my baby.' But off I went to mold young minds (or make young minds moldy -- I still haven't decided).
Do I miss it? Well, on the Wednesdays when the little darlings are acting up, absolutely I do. However, I know that the task was left in more than capable hands (Hi Karen!), and the store is running as smoothly as ever. To be fair, I still work on Saturdays and the occasional weekday during the summer months because, as we all know, this job gets in your blood. But I know I made the right decision for me. I'm glad Steve Bennett has had the opportunity to relax and delegate.
He won't be sorry!
