30 Days of Night, David Slade's adaptation of the graphic novel written by Steve Niles and published by IDW, is the near unanimous choice of box office analysts to come out on top of the heap of new films debuting this weekend.  The experts are predicting an opening in the high teens for 30 Days, which generated some definite buzz and has little real competition for the teenage horror film crowd.

The 30 Days of Night posters proudly proclaims the film's graphic novel origins (see '30 Days of Night Poster Flogs GN') and the actors who have been making the rounds of the talk shows have also consistently mentioned the graphic novel.  Ever since the success of 300 earlier this year, graphic novel origins can be celebrated rather than denied (remember Road to Perdition and A History of Violence).

Sony has mounted an impressive advertising campaign for 30 Days of Night with spots strategically situated in select TV sporting events, the Spike TV network, and the appropriate late night venues.  If 30 Days does as well as the experts think it will, it should represent a major graphic novel sales opportunity.
