Recently deceased King Features editor in chief Jay Kennedy (see 'Jay Kennedy RIP') will be honored by the establishment of an endowed scholarship fund in his name.  King Features is committing the first $100,000; the fund will be administered by the National Cartoonists Society Foundation.

King Features and the NCSF will lead fundraising for the new scholarship fund.

King Features president T.R. 'Rocky' Shepard III said of the endowment, 'We hope this scholarship will continue Jay's legacy of creativity and generosity....Jay spent countless hours providing advice, support, and encouragement to aspiring cartoonists.'

The first scholarship from the fund will be awarded at the 2008 Reuben Awards ceremony at the annual National Cartoonists Society convention over Memorial Day weekend 2008.
