Paramount is releasing Robert Zemeckis' motion-capture version of Beowulf on February 26th, a scant 102 days since the film debuted on the big screen. Paramount plans on releasing two versions of the film, a PG-13 rated theatrical cut that will go primarily to rental outlets, and a two-disc unrated Director's Cut Edition ($29.98) that will be the version that fans will want. Bonus features include plenty of deleted scenes plus five featurettes including 'The Making of Beowulf,' 'Designing the Creatures of Beowulf,' and 'Creating the Ultimate Beowulf.'
Neil Gaiman and Roger Avary wrote the screenplay for Beowulf, which topped the box office during its opening weekend (see 'Beowulf Slays Box Office Dragon') and eventually earned some $81 million domestically. A stellar 'vocal' and 'capture' cast including Anthony Hopkins, Crispin Glover, and Ray Winstone provide this action-packed adaptation with some class, but it's Angelina Jolie (and her famous 'nude' scene) that makes this DVD a 'must have' item.
