Twentieth Century Fox's science fiction film Jumper leapt to the top of the Valentine's Day/President's Day weekend box office with an estimated total of $27.2 million--followed by the dance movie Step Up 2 the Streets and the Spiderwick Chronicles with about $19 million each for the Friday-to-Sunday period.  All three films debuted on Thursday, and Jumper has earned a solid $33.85 million for the four-day period.

The family-oriented Spiderwick Chronicles (see 'Spiderwick Chronicles Board Game'), which is based on a series of popular YA novels, is the sort of effects-driven fantasy that should do well on Presidents Day and could end up with $25 million by the end of the five-day weekend.

The surprising Juno ($124 million to date) and the 3-D Hannah Montana concert movie ($58.4 million) continue to impress and Persepolis expanded by 85 theaters for a total of 212, its widest release so far.  So far the Oscar-nominated Persepolis has earned just under $3 million, and appears to be in need of the boost it will get from a mention on the Oscar telecast on February 24th.
