The Japanese Moon Phase Website is reporting (via AnimeNation) that the advertising band ('obi') around the newly released Trigun Maximum Vol. 14 indicates that a new Trigun movie, animated by Madhouse and directed by Trigun TV series director Satoshi Nishimura, will reach Japanese theaters in 2009.  The movie, which is being written by Yasuko Kobayashi, the screenwriter of the Gilgamesh and Guyver, will feature a battle between Vash and Wolfwood (aka 'Preacher Man').

Even though previous Trigun anime series were released in the U.S. by the now defunct Geneon, it is still highly likely that new Trigun movie will receive a North American release.  Thanks to long exposure on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim, Trigun remains one of the most well known anime series in the U.S., and Dark Horse's editions of Yasuhiro Nightow's Trigun and Trigun Maximum manga series remain extremely popular in both the bookstore and comic shop markets (Dark Horse just released Vol.12 in the U.S. in January).
