Vanguard Animation and Platinum Studios have formed Vanguard Comics, a new imprint, to develop new properties for comics and feature films, according to Variety.  Vanguard chairman John Williams, who produced the Shrek series, and Platinum CEO Scott Rosenberg are collaborating on the imprint.

The imprint’s first property is Illegal Aliens, by freelance artist Kevin MacDougall.  It was a finalist of a contest run by Platinum for new comic properties.  The comic tells the story of a tabloid reporter who goes to a Texas border town to investigate cattle mutilations.

Vanguard is partially owned by IDT Entertainment, which invested an eight figure sum in 2003.
