Jay Bardyla of Happy Harbor Comics in Edmonton, Alberta saw retailer Mark Farace’s comments about Tuesday shipping (see “Mark Farace of All American/Mo's Comics on One Day Earlier”) and wanted to clarify that “learning to deal with the existing infrastructure from distributors is not giving up on improving the business or the industry:”

In response to Mark Farace’s comments, I do want better business operations and we don’t “train” our customers any more than they already have been: to expect their comics on Wednesday.  My point was more that having a store that your customers appreciate will keep your sales in your store, no matter what time you put your books out.

And not every other industry operates the same way and especially in different countries.  In Canada we’ve had to deal with more frequent shipping issues for many more years, coupled with a lot of other issues that make our industry look less professional (primarily that of ridiculous exchange rates; just drop them altogether already).

Learning to deal with the existing infrastructure from distributors is not giving up on improving the business or the industry.  There are many other things we’ve done to become more professional and improve the industry, such as eliminating discounts, giving free school visits and much more.  I think the system is fine, it’s the enforcement that’s lacking.
