Scholastic Books has acquired Raina Telgemeier’s coming of age graphic novel memoir Smile.  Smile, which Scholastic plans to publish in 2010, has been appearing as weekly Webcomic on Telgemeier’s Website.  Smile is about the trials and traumas of growing up, dealing with friends and crushes, and the dental drama that ensues from a trip-and-fall mishap.

Judith Hansen of the Hansen Literary Agency negotiated the deal.  Scholastic was well aware of Telgemeier’s talent since she is the artist and adapter of Scholastic’s Baby-Sitters Club Graphix series of graphic novel adaptation of the popular YA novel series.
