In an interview with Sci Fi Wire Green Hornet writer/star Seth Rogen indicated that filming is scheduled to begin “sometime at the end of June.” Rogen noted that director Michel Gondry, who is the fourth helmer to take on the project after Christopher McQuarrie, Kevin Smith, and Stephen Chow all departed, was looking to do something far different from his previous films and was uninterested in repeating any of the low-cost special effects he used in earlier projects.
Rogen also indicated that he and co-writer Evan Goldberg have added elements of an origin story to the script, telling Sci Fi Wire: “At first we were kind of resisting the notion of an origin story, but then we realized we could kind of embrace it and then play with that idea; it could be a lot better. So that's something we've added.”
