Weekend box office receipts for Star Trek at IMAX theaters were $8.5 million, blowing away the old record of $6.3 million set by The Dark Knight last summer, according to IMAX.  The Star Trek per-Imax-screen average was a little lower; Star Trek was on 138 Imax screens, while The Dark Knight appeared on 94.

And Star Trek’s final numbers for the weekend were adjusted upward, based on strong Sunday receipts.  Star Trek’s opening weekend, including Thursday shows, was $79.2 million, adjusted upward from an estimate of $76.5 million as of Sunday (see “'Trek' Beats Expectations”).   The bump was due to surprisingly high family box office on Sunday, according to Variety.
