At the San Diego Comic-Con Dark Horse Comics and the Cartoon Network announced a comic book series that will be based on the popular Adult Swim animated series Metalocalypse.  Metalocalypse, which was created by Tommy Blacha and Brendon Small, chronicles the adventures of a death-metal band known as Dethklok.  It debuted on Adult Swim in 2006 and has become one of the late night mini-net’s most popular series.  The third season Metalocalypse will begin airing on Adult Swim in November.

A spin-off record, Dethalbum, which featured songs from the show along with new tracks, debuted at #21 on the Billboard charts in 2007 and sold some 33,741 copies during its first week.  Dethalbum II is slated for release in September.

The Dark Horse Metalocalypse comic book series will feature writers from the series as well as Dark Horse.  No firm release date for the comic book series is available at this time.
