Under the auspices of a deal reached between Disney and Apples Corps., Robert Zemekis (The Polar Express, Beowulf, and the forthcoming A Christmas Carol) is set to direct a 3D remake of the 1968 animated film Yellow Submarine.  The remake will feature all 16 Beatles songs from the original film and will utilize the motion capture technology, which Zemeckis has pioneered, to create the 3D animation.  A 2012 release is planned.

George Dunning directed the original 1968 Yellow Submarine, which featured distinctive, pop-art influenced art direction and design by Heinz Edelman.  The animated likenesses of the Beatles were used in the film, but not their actual voices.  The original Yellow Submarine movie was produced by United Artists and King Features Syndicate.
