Dynamite Entertainment has announced the acquisition of the rights to publish a comic book series based on Total Recall, the 1990 Carolco Pictures science fiction thriller that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone. Dynamite acquired the rights from StudioCanal S.A. and plans to publish its first Total Recall comic book later this year.
Directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Ronald Shusett, Dan O’Bannon, Jon Povill, and Gary Goldman, Total Recall was based on the classic Philip K. Dick short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.”
Last June Columbia Pictures hired Kurt Wimmer to script a remake of Total Recall, which tells the story of a construction worker who discovers what is possibly his true identity when he visits REKALL Inc., a company that implants “vacations of the mind.”
The Total Recall comic book joins Dynamite’s growing list of licensed titles that also includes Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Buck Rogers, Red Sonja, Flash Gordon, The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician (see “Dynamite Expands King Features Line”), Green Hornet, Red Sonja, and The Lone Ranger.
