Freelance writer James Madara of Rocket Studio read the recent article regarding Marvel's announcement of simultaneous digital and paper release for one of its frontline titles (see "Marvel Synches Digital ") and had this to say:

While I am encouraged to see Marvel have digital release on the same day, I wish they would keep the price the same as the print version.  At this point they are probably targeting two different audiences.  You still have those who want a tangible copy to hold and keep.  Digital readers are more about consumption.  They read it and while they technically still have it they cannot sell it or give it to a buddy.  The iPad is a really a large media consumption device, TV, movies, music, books, and comics.

I would really like to see Marvel open their digital catalog to iPad/iPhone users.  Readers who love the feel and smell of comics will continue to collect and read them.  This is why graphic novels and collected editions have taken off. It's a much better experience to read The Dark Knight Returns in book form, but a new reader may want to take a look at a lower cost digital edition and eventually purchase the graphic novel for their collection.
