Late Show host David Letterman riffed on DC’s Wednesday announcement that Superman would be walking across America as part of an editorial event coinciding with the 700th issue of Superman.  “Why doesn’t he fix the oil leak,” Letterman asked on Thursday night’s show after describing the journey. 

This is only a small part of the publicity, local and national, that DC can expect as part of this editorial event, which will incorporate real locations (within 50 miles of 7 metros) into the comics. 

Letterman’s riff was also only a small part of a long-running joke in which he has been asking Superman to fix the gushing oil well in the Gulf of Mexico for the last couple of months.  If only.
